A day in the Life

Quarantine Day 11

Another one of our sheep went into labour today.

Her first baby, was huge and had no interest whatsoever in coming out. So her labour became quite, intense.

But after a bit of time, the little guy was born, still.

Two other babies followed shortly after. A medium sized little girl, and then the tiniest baby sheep I have ever seen.

She was smaller than our little Patience when she was born.

Mom had no interest whatsoever in her babies.

I know this is something that happens. I know sometimes after a difficult labour sheep will show no interest in their little lambs, but it is still so disappointing when it happens.

And from a wanna-be-shepherd’s perspective, do we chalk it up to the situation, or will this Mom always be a birth-em-and-leave-em Mom?

So many questions, so few answers.

The smallest lamb we took immediately inside. She was having difficulty standing and was just overall weaker then her sister who was happily bounding about her pen.

With patience, we plied her with colostrum and gave her a selenium shot, and little by little she recovered her strength.

So, while today did not turn out exactly as we hoped with three gorgeous sheep running around their Mother’s legs, we do still have 2 happy little girls that look like they will be with us for the foreseeable future.

Fingers crossed.
