Creeper
We’ve been looking for a live stock guardian dog ever since we picked up our sheep and goats.
We realize we don’t have much in the way of livestock to guard, at least not at the moment, but we are hopeful that over the years, that will change. So planning for the future, we have been actively seeking a Merema livestock dog.
We searched high and low, but the live stock guardian dogs available around here seem to be all Pyrenees and Pyrenees crosses.
Now, Pyrenees dogs are supposed to be some of the best guardian dogs out there, but we felt that they were a little too much dog for our farm. For one, they’re HUGE. So they eat a lot. And secondly, Pyrenees were bred to take down wolves, a predator we do not have here on the Island.
Meremas, though, are smaller, great guardian dogs who also have been credited with watching the skies for aerial predators. Now THAT is something we do have here, in spades. Eagles, hawks, Osprey- oh my!
We looked high and low for months, only to realize that we would be heading back to Ontario within a few weeks, so maybe, just maybe we could find our beloved marshmellow dog within those provincial borders.
Turns out, we totally could.
Everyone, say hello to Creeper.
