A day in the Life

Nova Rangers

For the past three years we have exclusively raised Cornish cross meat birds. They’re what’s available at the local hardware stores and Co-op. They’re the exclusive meat bird you can buy at the grocery store. They’re delicious. They’re quick growers. They tend to eat way too much food, and if you’re not careful, can die of a heart attack from overeating.

Not exactly the poster chickens of health.

So when we heard about Nova Rangers, or Freedom rangers, that were raised just a stone’s throw away from us, we were obviously excited to try them out. We decided to raise some Cornish Crosses right along side our Nova birds, to compare the experience.

Today, we ran out to Nova Scotia to pick up our little free rangers. We got to see the farm they came from. To walk the acreage and look out over the chickens foraging, the sheep grazing, and the dogs running and playing in the background.

So far, I can say, the experience has been a good one.

But don’t worry, we’ll update as we go.
