It Begins..
After struggling for months to get our chickens to lay, (if you don’t remember this, go here to read that fun adventure) we are finally getting enough eggs, regularly, to begin a hatch!
When we first began hatching our own eggs, we used a little styrofoam 48 egg incubator. It wasn’t long before we began to loathe that thing. The styrofoam construction meant we had a terrible time keeping the humidity at the right percentage, and let me tell you when chickens actually did hatch (which wasn’t often) they made a mess that was impossible to clean off of those white walls. We quickly upgraded to a 96 egg incubator.
It was two levels of pure chicken hatching heaven. The egg turners were not sold separately, it came with a handy candelor and was made of plastic, not styrofoam. It was glorious.
We dusted that glorious incubator off this morning. We then spent a good twenty minutes drawing silly faces on the eggs, while imagining all the chickens inside, that in three short weeks, would be happily peeping out from their egg shells.
